I believe that the key to a healthy mind and body is finding the right balance in life. The balance of eating healthy, unprocessed and nutritious food, along with exercise and relaxation. Food is our fuel, it’s nourishing and essential to support many processes in our body, it keeps us alive. The macro and micro nutrients (proteins, vitamins, minerals etc.) help to repair our cells, keep our bones strong, support our immune system and so on.
In our busy scheduled lives, we don’t often allow ourselves to create time to cook and be more mindful about the food we buy, so we end up eating processed food which lacks the nutrients we need so much and contains additives, excessive sugars, salt and saturated fats which we don’t need at all. This all together combined with stress, a lack of sufficient sleep and exercising is resulting in all kinds of unnecessary physical discomfort and disease such as joint/muscle pain, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, being overweight, diabetes, headaches etc.
Various factors play a role when it comes to weight (fat) gain and often it’s a combination of those factors. There is of course the factor of quantity and quality of food. Although quality can sometimes be more significant then quantity. You won’t increase your fat % by eating large portions of kale!
Something more significant and being overlooked in gaining fat is stress. It leads to weight (fat) gain of the worst kind. Stress induced weight gain typically involves an increase in belly fat which is the most dangerous fat for your body to accumulate and increases your cardiovascular risk. Stress alters the way fat is deposited because of the specific hormones and other chemicals your body produces when you’re stressed.
Dr. R. Sapolsky, “Stress, Portrait of a killer”
The consumption of alcohol in our society has become more of a daily intake then just a night out at the weekend. The number of calories some alcoholic drinks contain are contributing to the increase of weight gain but what you might not know is that alcohol consumption is slowing down metabolism as much as 73%! (studies American journal of clinical nutrition) The liver is an organ with a wide range of functions such as (amongst others) detoxification, the production of biochemicals necessary for digestion and hormone production. It also plays a major role in metabolism. You can imagine that when the liver is very busy with the detoxification of alcohol it can’t do a proper job in helping to break down fat. The liver also influences the thyroid gland and when it’s weakened through excessive alcohol consumption it can result in a less efficient working thyroid.
When it comes to losing weight, there’s much more to it, and a “1 size fits all” nutrition plan isn’t effective. We are all unique and each individual has different factor(s) playing a role in weight (fat) gain. I don’t believe in dieting, but in a healthy balanced lifestyle, and through an in-depth consultation with you I’ll make a custom designed plan which fits you best.

Let me be clear what life coaching is about and for whom it is not suitable. A life coach guides and helps people in the process of achieving personal goals such as for example a change of life style, achieving a successful career, relationships, finding a purpose in life etc. The life coach is there to support, motivate, inspire and handing out the tools for the client to work on his/her life path, to be able to make the client see what’s already there.
Life coaching is not suitable for those diagnosed with mental illness or receiving psychiatric treatment.
A nutritionist is qualified only to provide information about food and healthy eating and not specific diets for treating conditions.
