Many years ago, I received the diagnosis of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) .
In my opinion (western regular) doctors give this diagnosis because they don’t know what the hell is exactly going on in your gut. You might have an intolerance, lacking certain enzymes or bacteria, hormonal disturbances, it could even be a combination of foods which trigger bloating, pain, feeling heavy and full etc. Maybe the pancreas and liver (or other organs involved in the digestion process) aren’t doing their job properly? Who knows.
I’m sharing here with you my findings and personal experience on the matter.
A journey within
Through an expensive journey (could have bought me a decent 2nd hand car by now) of treatments by alternative practitioners (since the regular doctors could do nothing else then just diagnose), I dived in to the internal world of the human body.
I’m not the kind of person to sit back and just let someone, even though this person is qualified for the job, tell me the kind of medical condition I might be suffering from without questioning it or knowing what it’s all about. I don’t go through treatments and swallow pills and potions (even though all herbal and organic) without knowing what it will exactly do for me, so I did a thorough research on the net, reading all kinds of interesting books on nutrition, herbs, the human body, mind & soul.
Influence of the mind
Especially the mind & soul is something I like to give attention to here. You can adjust your diet, go through treatments, use homeopathic medicines or supplements to treat your condition, illness or name it a discomfort as you wish, but you’re just treating the symptoms. (unless you’re allergic to or have an intolerance to certain foods, or a genetic defect) A malfunctioning in the body is actually telling you that there’s something in your life, your very soul going on that needs attention. There’s something happening at a deeper level that’s expressing itself through the organic material of the body. Having digestion problems could be translated into having difficulties digesting life, the challenges and experiences that we face in life. To treat your illness, to heal (be whole) you need to go deeper beyond the flesh.
Beyond the flesh
So, after many years of going through all kinds of treatments, adjusting my diet, studying the human body, my body, I came to the frustrating point that it didn’t take away my gut problem. I realised there was something going on at another level and decided to try the last alternative option, I went to see a spiritual acupuncturist. Not only did she make my energy flow again (unblocking my energy lines) but we went to the very root of it all, life experiences which had affected my very soul and of course I wasn’t aware of it until we went through it and it revealed itself. There was still hurt and unprocessed experiences (while I assumed that I processed it all) which made my energy flow stagnate. (the energy flow I needed for my organs to work properly)
After processing my experiences and hurt it took some time for my body to re-adjust, but finally I felt that the world beneath my belly was softening, friendly, flowing. I’m still being mindful regarding the food I’m consuming since my intestines are sensitive and I have hormonal disturbances (another subject on the matter which I’ll explain in another blog) which interfere with my digestion from time to time. Though there’s a positive change and I am moving forward, moving towards wholeness. (as whole as I can be)
This journey of exploring the self and the human being inside out had a wonderful side effect; it made me decide to become a nutritionist and holistic life coach. Always see the opportunity to turn something in to a positive advantage!
